VGH/RJH IHealth Status Update

WHAT IS HAPPENING

Victoria General Hospital (VGH) and Royal Jubilee Hospital (RJH) will go live with Computerized Provider Order Entry and Orders Management (CPOE-OM) and other electronic health record tools, to improve quality and patient safety. This activation builds on the Fall 2021 launch of Electronic Clinical Documentation at both sites. A single, high quality health record for each patient – including all clinical documentation, orders and results – improves the information available to the care team, and provides a more evidence-based view for decisions and care planning. The electronic system also includes tools that support monitoring and early interventions for better health outcomes. Parallel work is underway to update and ‘harmonize’ clinical order sets across the region, which will also support preparation for the activation of CPOE-OM at VGH/RJH. You will receive a separate update on this work in the coming days.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

A specific “go-live” date in Fall 2023 for the VGH/RJH Tertiary activation has not been set. Together with clinical operations and medical leaders, we are assessing options for a launch in September or October 2023. The activation will include the following:
  • Computerized Provider Order Entry and Orders Management (CPOE-OM) and Closed Loop Medication Administration (e.g., bedside bar-code medication scanning)
  • Replacement of the surgical scheduling tool (from ORSOS to SurgiNet)
  • Introduction of the Anaesthesia Information Management System (SurgiNet Anaesthesia)
  • South Island Surgical Centre and Gorge Road Hospital Bridgeview and Skyview units activations are included
  • Activation for Ambulatory clinics (scope confirmation to follow).
VGH will go live first, followed by RJH. There will be an interval between the two, timeline to be determined. Colleagues from IHealth, Clinical Informatics or other closely involved project partners may contact you to engage in the planning process – your participation is of critical importance and appreciated.
