SOUTH ISLAND TERTIARY IHEALTH ACTIVATION OF CPOE IS RE-SCHEDULED TO MAY 25, 2024 AND JUNE 8, 2024

What You Need To Know

The IHealth activation of advanced electronic health record (EHR) functionality, including computerized provider order entry (CPOE), at South Island Tertiary sites is re-scheduled as follows:

  • Victoria General Hospital, Gorge Road Hospital acute units and South Island Surgical Centre will go live on May 25, 2024.
  • Royal Jubilee Hospital will go live on June 8, 2024.

As you may be aware, the Tertiary CPOE activation is impacted by the upcoming transition of Island Health’s Cerner EHR system to a Remote Hosting Option (RHO). Dates for the RHO transition were re-scheduled to February 23-24, which was determined to be too close to Tertiary activation dates, and additional time was required to ensure system stabilization.

The change in RHO transition dates was beyond the control of Island Health. We understand that date changes have impacts on your schedules and planning, and we apologize for this. Your continued adaptability and understanding are appreciated.

The next steps for Tertiary CPOE preparation are as follows:

  • All sites prepare for RHO planned downtime scheduled from 10 p.m. on Friday, February 23 to 6 a.m. on Saturday, February 24.
  • Continue South Island Tertiary staff education and learning.
  • Project teams and partners continue to focus on completing build requirements and testing to support advanced functionality and CPOE.

AMBULATORY CLINICS ACTIVATING WITH ACUTE CARE

A total of 21 ambulatory clinics (see table below) will activate at the same time as acute care areas on May 25 and June 8. Criteria for inclusion of these clinics is:

  • Surgical procedural areas where the outpatient space is a part of the inpatient journey/surgical flow.
  • To support patient flow continuity and experience of patients that regularly flow in and out of ambulatory units as part of their patient stay.

All remaining ambulatory clinics will activate at a later date, yet to be determined.
